When you imagine a spa visit, you picture comfy dressing gowns, cosy fires and sizzling saunas.
However, when we visited Moddershall Oaks, we were also lucky enough to be in a true food destination.
Nestled near Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, the scenic route to the spa hotel is beautiful, but taking the faster routes is about a two hours’ drive from Hull.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with a glass of Skinny prosecco and were shown to one of the few luxury rooms we would be staying in.
With a living area, huge bed, standalone bath and even an outdoor terrace area with shared hot tub, we knew we had come to the right place.
We spent the afternoon bathing in the outdoor heated pool, as well as the sauna, indoor swimming pool and steam room, and took advantage of snug for a quick nap or two.
With a roaring log fire that is topped up hourly, the snug was a sea of sofas that just cried out to be napped on, as well as plenty of magazines to while away the time.
After a quick HD Brow treatment, by 8.15pm we were dressed and booted to make our way through to dinner.
The best thing about Moddershall Oaks, apart from the unlimited testers of Elemis products you can apply to your face and body, is that you don’t have to step outside at all.
Akin to a cosy rabbit warren, we made our way through a maze of corridors to the restaurant – and we were left stunned at the quality of the food.
With starters of chicken liver parfait and French onion soup, they were up there with the best we had tasted, and the mains of spiced pork belly on a potato rosti and roasted venison on truffle mash were truly superb.
I was in heaven.
The crème de la crème of the meal, though, was the pudding we shared. It was a soft sticky toffee pudding, with a cinnamon and banana fritter with banana ice cream. Bliss.
After a fantastic night’s sleep, we lounged throughout the next day in between our body scrub treatments, and I left glowing with all the layers of Elemis products I slapped on my face.
We can’t wait to return.
